I’ve been immersed in gloom,
But I’ll be done with it real soon;
I am taking steps to cheer up–
I think that I can “gear up”,
To be a lot more cheerful
Instead of being drearful;

So please give me some aid
So my gloominess will fade—
Just smile when our paths cross
And that smile will not be lost.
I will take it on my way
And pass it on all day,

And that smile will spread around
To all the people in our town;
And don’t just smile for me
But for everyone you see;
You never know who needs it
Or where the Lord will lead it.
